My profile here doesn't let me list all of the movies I love. So here goes: Koji's (almost) Unabridged List of Favourite Movies: (in no particular order)
I first saw Schindler's List in 7 grade for a video project. Words can't explain how much faith I lost in the world after I viewed this film. I think this is the movie that made me who I am now: cynical, paranoid, and worrysome. Why? I don't know. I still love this movie. A great example of how terrible people can be.
My father explained this movie best: "It's plain, simple angst." This movie embodies exactly how I feel right now. Hopefully my love for this movie won't diminish.
Terry Gilliam isn't my favourite actor in Monty Python, but he sure does a damn good job" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||job|AA1VDw">job" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||job|AA1VDw">job of mirroring Orwell's 1984.
This is the first and only movie of Hayao Miyazaki's I have seen. This movie is pure genius from the story to the art. Absolutely beautiful. Animation is one of the many things the Japanese do right.
Tenchi Muyo was the first anime I saw outside of Pokemon (if that cultural monstrosity can even be called anime). Doesn't have the best art, but the story is pure Japanese sci-fi.
My favourite war movie outside of The Longest Day. I have a thing for World War II, and this movie fulfills it all. Shows the horrors of war in a strikingly shocking fashion.
A film set during the British Boer War in South Africa. Shows that no matter what you feel, it is almost always overridden by what society deems necessary or right.
Yes, part of why I love this movie is because of the drill sergeant. But Kubrick, in what I deem his best work, presents Vietnam as it probably really was: a useless conflict against an undefeatable enemy.
A movie that spawned one of my favourite TV series has to be good. And, in acuality, it is. It amazes me how people can keep sane when people are dropping dead nearby.
A smack in the face to the gun-crazy conservatives of America.
My favourite war movie, tied with Saving Private Ryan. Odd that they're both based on the same event, no?
Another movie with my favourite actress, Scarlett Johansson. Bill Murray should win the best actor award for this film.
By far Burton's best work.
Ingenious film featuring my other favourite actress, Thora Birch. Also, one of my favourite actors, Kevin Spacey. It really is beauty.
Another favourite actor, Morgan Freeman. Being in prison would suck.
Gives the North African theatre the look it needs. Patton is the modern great general.
A childhood favourite never fades.
A movie about a man who rides his lawn mower across Iowa to visit his dying brother in Wisconsin. This is a 100% true story. I shit you not.
What you get when you cross a drunk, a crossdresser, a kid, and a baby. |
